Robocalypse Now: Taiwan communications robot ready to steal human jobs in Asia

A recent technology event in Taiwan called the COMPUTEX TAIPEI 2009 revealed Micro-Star International's new TGR-W1 robot. The tiny robot is designed to interact with humans as a guide via audio, visual and gesture communications.

The TGR-W1 also has a built-in infrared and ultrasonic detection system allowing it to avoid obstacles while moving around an office and home environment and can be operated remotely via the Internet. No word on pricing on commercial release date but the company eventually plans to deploy the robot for jobs such as home care for children and the elderly, tele-education and remote monitoring.
